KARACHI: Former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi advised the current skipper of the national team, Babar Azam, to consider all possible ways to score goals against his team.

Afridi commented on his reaction to Babar’s statement before Pakistan’s T20I clash against Bangladesh in the ongoing tri-nation series in Christchurch, where the skipper said he was considering setting a target of 160 runs for The Tigers to chase.

“Babar must come out of this average mindset and think big,” Afridi said.

“If scoring 160 runs for the target against Bangladesh was his big intent then what is he going to do against stronger teams,” he added.

Afridi claimed that if the other team “comes out with plans to put a large total on the scoreboard while standing on the wicket,” the batting team’s lofty goals might put a lot of pressure on them.

Furthermore, the 42-year-old praised Mohammad Rizwan, the best T20 batter in the world right now, saying that the nation should thank God for him.

“The actual thing is the beginning. Babar and Rizwan should score a chunk of runs [for other batters],” he said.

Pakistan beat Bangladesh by seven wickets on Thursday, thanks to Mohammad Nawaz’s blistering 20-ball 45 and Rizwan’s 69 runs off 56 balls.
