FIA summons PTI’s Asad Qaiser in prohibited funding case

PESHAWAR: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Saturday summoned PTI leader Asad Kaiser to investigate a banned financing case.
FIA Peshwar investigators summoned the former President of the National Assembly to go to his FIA office in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on 11 August. According to the notice, in the Akbar S. Babal case, Kaiser was asked to appear in person before the investigative team and respond to inquiries regarding his two bank accounts that he opened and maintained.
It should be noted that following his ECP decision regarding foreign funding, the FIA has launched an investigation into his PTI officers and employees.
FIA begins investigations
Earlier this week, Federal Intelligence Minister Mariyum Aurangzeb announced that the Federal Investigative Agency (FIA) would fully investigate PTI’s foreign funding case.
At his Aug. 4 press conference in the federal capital, the minister said an investigation had been launched against “everyone involved in this crime.”
The Government will take action in light of the Pakistan Electoral Commission’s ruling. An investigation will be conducted as to where the funds were used. A founding member of PTI, Akbar S. Babar, formally contacted his FIA and launched an investigation against it alleging that he received illicit funds through accounts held on behalf of junior officials. On August 5, Babar said he asked for the investigation in 2016 and he asked in 2017, but the agency did not listen.
In 2011, the PTI’s CFO illegally allowed four employees of the party’s Central Secretariat to collect national and international donations in personal accounts, he wrote to the FIA DG. This practice will be reviewed and documented in the determination of foreign funding procedures for PTI. A total of Rs 11,104 million was credited to his PTI staff accounts, which exceeded their known sources of income. Given the seriousness of the crimes committed by the
party leadership and his four employees, his letter states that all legally prescribed measures must be taken.
