KARACHI: Pakistan veteran all-rounder Shoaib Malik has finally opened up on his tweet after the national side’s T20 Asia Cup 2022 final loss against Sri Lanka at the Dubai International Stadium on September 11.

Pakistan were handed a 23-run loss by Sri Lanka in the grand finale of the Asian event. Pakistan’s middle order was highly criticised for their dismal performance throughout the tournament.

Talking on a programme of a local channel, Malik said: “It wasn’t something out of frustration that I wasn’t part of the team. I never talk for myself. For me, there are a lot of people who support me.

“Being a spectator, I got angry, but It wasn’t limited to the Asia Cup final. I am accustomed to our system and culture because I participate in domestic cricket. In domestic cricket as well, I’ve observed that players are frequently favoured and liked. It was related to that and a wake-up alert to the concerned people.”

The 40-year-old added that several people told him that he wasn’t selected because of the tweet.

“If I wasn’t selected because of this and our system gets better, I am glad I wasn’t selected,” he added.

What Malik said

“When will we come out from friendship, liking & disliking culture. Allah always helps the honest,” the all-rounder wrote.
